Every day in Haldimand and Norfolk Counties, members of CUPE 4700:
Fix and maintain our roads
Ensure our drinking water is safe
Operate our pools, arenas, and other public facilities
Inspect our restaurants and buildings
Maintain our parks and forests
And so much more…
We are the people, who deliver our public services.
We recognize that we are on the ancestral lands of the Anishnawbe, Haudenosaunee, and Attawandaron peoples, and we are grateful for the opportunity to come together on this land.
We acknowledge the deep and enduring connection that these Nations have to this land, and we reflect on their history, culture, and contributions. As we gather here, we commit ourselves to ongoing learning about Indigenous practices, traditions, and cultures, and to the continued pursuit of understanding, respect, and reconciliation.
We also wish to highlight the enduring significance of the Two Row Wampum Treaty. This treaty, symbolized by the Two Row Wampum Belt, is a mutual understanding that both sides will live in peace and respect, each pursuing their distinct paths while remaining side by side. It is a reminder of the ongoing commitment we all must make to uphold these values, in the spirit of partnership and mutual understanding.
Finally, we offer our respect to the Elders of Turtle Island (also known as North America), both past and present, and extend this respect to all Indigenous peoples and communities. We honor their resilience, wisdom, and leadership, and we strive to be allies in the work of reconciliation

Our submission to the governance review will demand
URGENT ACTION NEEDED RE: PROTECTING YOUR OMERS PENSION PLAN
The Government of Ontario is changing how your OMERS Pension Plan is governed. In November 2025, the government passed Bill 68, Plan to Protect Ontario Act, a broad and encompassing omnibus bill impacting the governance structure at OMERS. The Act gives the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing unprecedented powers to make changes to your plan.
There is no doubt that we need better transparency and accountability at OMERS. Recall, the plan lost it’s fully funded status in 2008 and almost twenty years later is still in a deficit. CUPE Ontario has raised concerns about plan underperformance for more than a decade. The response from the Plan has been to erode and weaken your voice at the OMERS bargaining table.
This is your money and affects your retirement future. Now the Government gets to decide what your voice will be in your plan. The Government should not interfere in your pension. We must ensure that you have a strong voice to bargain and protect your pension benefits.
CUPE Ontario is fighting to protect your voice in the plan, but we need your support to do so. Please see the attached document for more information. Review the attached flyer and visit wepaywewantasay.ca to add your support to this crucial campaign. Let other plan members – CUPE or non-CUPE – know that we need their support too!
Help keep Ontario’s water safe, clean and affordable.
Together we are stronger.
An informed and engaged membership builds a stronger collective agreement.
People depend on public services; services depend on people to deliver them.

CUPE 4700 workers touch every part of life: they fix roads, provide emergency care, test drinking water, connect us with library resources, run ice rinks, lead community workshops, and much more. We’re facing tough economic times, and that’s when we need affordable, reliable public services most.
